USA and Greece 2011

Blog of our trip to compete in the USPSA Nationals in Las Vegas and the IPSC World Championships in Greece … Wish us luck!!

Day 1 – Travel Day (Melbourne – LA – Las Vegas)

Las Vegas

Tuesday, 13 September 2011

After a 2hr delay leaving Melbourne, we were finally on our way to LA (14 hr flight). Had no trouble clearing customs with the guns – did not even have to show them or any paperwork! Had a short wait at LAX (long enough to pay $28 for 2 sandwiches and a bottle of mineral water!), then a 1hr flight to Las Vegas where we picked up the hire car and Dave had his first experience driving on the wrong side of the road!!

Arrived at the hotel mid afternoon and it is fantastic (thanks Joe!). We’re on the 29th floor of the MGM Grand Signature in a huge apartment (it has 2 bathrooms and 3 TV’s!!) with a balcony overlooking the Strip.

Had a quick dinner in the food court downstairs then headed to bed to catch up on much needed sleep after being awake for almost 24hrs straight.

Day 2 – Las Vegas

Las Vegas

Had a great sleep in (till midday!!), then headed out for some shopping at the Premium Outlets. The place is huge and some items so much cheaper than at home (I bought a couple of Nike dri-fit polo shirts for $20 each!!).

Drove around for a bit like complete tourists (occasionally on the wrong side of the road) looking for a supermarket and eventually found a Walmart. Stocked up on supplies then headed back to the hotel.

Dave cooked steak and veg for tea – yummy!

The plan for tomorrow is Hoover Dam, couple of gun shops and a visit to the TV show shop, ‘Pawn Stars’. Might need to get up earlier than midday…!

  1. The trick with the driving, someone once told me and it seemed to work, is to keep the steering wheel to the centre of the road. Just love that scrunched up building!
