USA and Greece 2011

Day 3 – Las Vegas

Las Vegas

Thursday, 15 September 2011

Just about to head out the door and start seeing the sights … and Dave pinches a nerve in his back. A handful of pain killers and an hour of rest later we were off to see Hoover Dam and the first of many visits to the local gunshops. We also discovered that Las Vegas has a marina!! (yes, seriously – a very big marina, also known as Lake Mead).

Day 4 – USPSA – Registrations

Las Vegas

Friday, 16 September 2011

Visited a few more gun shops this morning (all starting to look the same to me!). Then headed to ‘The Riviera Hotel and Casino’ at 1pm to register for the match. We stood in line for about an hour (funny how no matter where in the world you go, registrations never start at the advertised time) to get our info packs and t-shirts.

We then headed out to the range, the ‘Desert Sportsmen’s Rifle and Pistol Club’ (no joke about the desert bit … It’s a very large dustbowl with minimal facilities). We were hoping to chrono and function fire our guns, but no one seemed to know if/where we could. Thankfully, the indoor range ‘American Shooters’ is one of the match sponsors and free passes were provided in the info pack for each competitor, so we headed there for a quick test / sight-in. Always nice to know the guns survived the flight ok!!

While at the range we did have a quick look at some of the stages (was quite a shock we were actually allowed to walk-thru the stages before the match … I kept looking over my shoulder waiting for an official to yell at me!). Average target distance is about 5 meters!!! We’ll be shooting 8 of the 20 stages tomorrow afternoon (2+2+2 shot hot) and I only spotted 4 targets that I’ll actually need to aim at – should be a fun day!
